Let’s be clear she’s facing certain death from the male lead but also from her father. What’s the point of being ‘bold’ if it’s not effective. It’s just wasted effort that could yield dangerous results and plus our girl is tired. The fact that she remains so apathetic under pressure is what actually saves her from the male lead.
