I think Arendt is acting like a child. He wanted an empress that wouldn’t ‘love’ him so he accepted the proposal of a damaged woman but he started to fall for her. Now he’s ruining their wedding and party by wearing that sour look and being distant the whole time. If he’s going to treat her that way then what’s the difference between being neglected by Valer and marrying Arendt. He should understand that she spent ten years being treated like dirt by Valer. How does he think his jerk behavior will win over her heart.
@Miscmech I know you want to justify the FL..I read all the chapters of this series without skipping one..I understand her pain,yes being abused, neglected and despised by her own family…she dreamt to love and be loved however,life is unfortunate to her…but all I want to say is,being broke and heartbroken doesn’t mean to use another person for your desire to take revenge…did she think of the possible outcome of her selfish act at that time?.. I’m concerned for Arend…

I have read all the chapters without skipping. Where, exactly, does she say/imply/think of using another person for revenge?
Her contract with her husband is mutually beneficial, as he needed a wife with no attachments. They both went into it thinking that neither of them would fall in love and it’s not on her that he caught feelings first. So even if she was ding this to get back at her ex, I fully support her in that; he deserves it.
Although, why would she think of making her previous fiance jealous when, before now, he didn’t care about her or what she was doing at all?
If you are talking about the dance, there’s nothing in the text (yet) saying it is for revenge (I assume for him snubbing her). It’s also probably the most logical choice as the second dance is meant to be with the emperor/empress’ lover, and so doing it with a man who is going to be leaving the country, rather than a noble in a faction of her current country, will step on fewer toes.
I ham reading it, and I am not liking how it looks like she’ll get back with the emperor and not Jeremy, who’s been kind and helpful and not at all pushy. Please do not get me started on that.
If someone hurts you, and does so for years and then suddenly has a change of heart after realizing the hurt they caused, but STILL refuses to listen to your wishes (both here and IWAYR) they do not deserve you. I do not care how sad they are. You are never owed forgiveness or a second chance and those are years of our FLs’ lives they are never getting back.

Like, who’s to say that these men won’t go back to behaving the way they were before once they have what they want? I know, being ML means that they HAVE to truly be remorseful, but what in the story itself says that they’ve really changed. What they’ve learned seems to be, “I can’t live without FL and therefore should get her back and then do everything in my power to make her stay with me”. Loving someone isn’t enough if you’re not good for them or they’re not good for you; you can be happy and single. Maybe we get a happy ending but five, ten years down the line, they start taking for granted that FL is by their side again, because it seems like it’s a given?
And why exactly is that? Didn’t they get engaged knowing that they didn’t love each other? It was a deal between the both if them and it’s not like she’s jumping Valers bones. Arends acting like an ass because he can’t be honest with his own feelings.
I’m not lying,I really want Neveah and Valer to have a second chance in love.. however,I know it’s hard since she’s married now..I am really disappointed on the FL..she made decisions without thinking the outcome first..
Yeah,she succeed in making her way to Valer’s system by marrying Arend but she did not think about this event to happen..just one night she asked him to marry her,for the purpose of getting rid of Valer from her system but judging now,I guess she failed..she just make things even worst…
I mean, it’s not Arend’s fault in the first place..the matter is between Valer and Neveah…Valer was a coward and ignorant fool.. neglecting Neveah’s love and affection but Neveah is at fault too..did she act like this when she’s the duke’s fiancee?I think all she did was clung onto him and begged for love and attention..
Oh wow, an abused and neglected woman who literally had no one on her side and who gave the man everything, expected some attention or at least that he not let other women cling to him? How outrageous. It’s not like she was singlehandedly managing the Duke’s affairs while he was away, asked for no material things, and did things to try to make him happy (the flowers). It takes two to tango; she put in so much effort for their relationship, and he took that for granted.
She did think this through. She had nothing back in her home country. No family to look out for her, no friends to support her in noble society. And she knew that this kind of contract marriage would benefit them both.
Her goal wasn’t to get over her love for him (feelings aren’t so simple), but to make a life for herself, and she’s more than accomplished that. What was she supposed to do? Try even more things to try to get her fiance on her side when he wouldn’t even give her the time of day? Play hard to get and still suffer in the social world and from her own loneliness in the meantime?
