People lie because of their trauma, like when kid did something in the past and he/sge admitted it her/his parents yelled her/him or did something worse. So when she/he makes mistake again, she/he would lie because of triggers and fear. It’s basically psychology.
I feel ppl judge fictional characters way too harshly even tho reality is much closer to this and you are def right tho i myself dislike such ways but then again its smth natural and not under control
