I think ml’s reaction is a bit understandable. Not only is the emotions he is feeling are new to him, it goes against his ideal especially because the emotion are for daughter of enemy. And more importantly, fl is completely opposite of him. Fl is kind and warm while ml is cold. Ml probably see fl as pathetic because to him being kind and warm means death sentence or digging up your own grave because let’s be honest, people like those aren’t barely surviving in this world as they would be easy target and kept being bullied and used by others. So not only ml kind of see fl’s kindness and warmness pointless and pathetic, fl actually saved him because of that personality of hers. Ml is used to being the one that protects others and it’s because he is strong and that’s how it should be but fl who is weak, too kind and nice should be the one getting protected and yet she protected ml which makes him feel pathetic because fl saved him not because she loved him or had some motive but “just because”. And also while ml has some idea on how he is feeling and is trying to do better, he still has a big ego which is preventing him from being nice and stuff. He wants to approach but he doesn’t want to come off as emotional or in love with fl and stuff. And since dude is basically new these emotions and oblivious to how he is seen by others, dude just ends up being cold and rude. I know alot of people who approach their crush like this. They are too stiff because they want to look cool and “not in love” or “not seeking their attention” or “not interested” with their crush but ends up looking like cool and a bit rude like this ml. And yeah even tho I think I understand this behavior, people like this will suffer in love because they are too afraid to show emotion to their crush as they are look focus on how to approach without looking like attention seeker + looking cool and stuff and since they end up sounding cold and rude, it just backfires on them. Good thing is ml know how he is feeling and he evaluate his actions in end of the day and sees that his actions has caused fl pain and that was not how he wanted to act and major thing is he is trying. But yeah ml needs to step up his game because if he doesn’t managed to improve it gonna make him regret later on because that’s not how you would want to approach your crush or someone you like especially if you want to get close. It’s a childish approach especially done by teenager who is slowly getting to learn emotions and stuff and them being new to these “how to approach someone you like” stuff. Ml too is pretty much teenager if we talk about his emotions because he too is just learning these stuff but yeah if he doesn’t change his approach, it will hit him very hard later on. So change faster while you can so you won’t have to regret later on. You have good self awareness and have excellent aide who gives good advice so nothing should stop you from improving.
