Yeah.. that’s why I don’t necessarily hate ariel, I hate her actions but as a person she is a victim of her circumstances.. I think maybe cuz I sorta relate a bit? I mean I’ve never gone and tried to hurt people or anything but I did grow up with a bad home environment as well and saw anyone who said they loved me as a chance at love and getting out of that environment as it was one where I was very much trapped as well. So yeah.. I can’t really hate ariel fully. I can hate the actions she took to hurt others but also sympathize with her as she was someone young and naive (since her world was small and she was also someone who stien got with prior to her coming of age) to the person who claimed to love her and was misled by him (since it seems stien tricked her into thinking he was the count instead) only to wind up being the one to have to carry the mental and emotional labor and try to get by and deal with the treatment she got cuz the one she loved turned out to not be as good as she thought.
Ive seen so many girls in ariel’s position. Blinded by love and romantic feelings that made them cant identify an abuse or a toxic relationship. Rationally you’d know that a cheater who left someone for you wont be a reliable partner. A person who leeches on someone wont be a responsible person. A person who hits you once will likely do it again. But girls like this think that this person is the only person they could ever love and be loved in return, so they never take a step back to see the reality of their situation and stuck in that toxic relationship forever. They are stuck being abused and probably abuse others too if their abuser wills it.
