i’ll give my two cents tho: at the very least, lucian doesn’t seem to hate himself any more due to the duke liking rachel over him. i would say his attitude has become apathetic towards his father now. at least rachel is providing comfort and companionship to lucian and he can relax around her now. he’s also opened up to her. is rachel doing her best with the situation given what she knows and what she can do? no… but at least lucian’s mental health isn’t getting worse since he can rely on her now and be a friend that he never had.

@HoneyToast i think lucian already knows that whatever he does, it will never be enough for his father. and it is true; the duke will always hate lucian. every little thing lucian does will always disgust him because he has his own unresolved issues against his own father. i just feel sorry for lucian because he doesn’t know the reason why his father hates him so much. i think he’s just given up on his father because he met rachel and he finally realized that someone can like him and care for him despite his “shortcomings.” he finally gets to experience what unconditional love is. sure, its only bc rachel is a transmigrator, but at least he gets to experience SOME kindness from someone during a very developmental age. am i saying that we should just ignore everything just bc lucian seems fine with everything? no bc they’re all good points against the storytelling!! i’m just saying that it COULD be a lot worse, and if lucian wasn’t the ML, i’m sure we could see the other side where he goes crazy with resentment against the duke and rachel. i just literally don’t know what else rachel could do against a psychopathic caretaker bc she also has to look after herself since she has nowhere else to go.

I know she probably could’ve done a little bit more to prevent the duke’s abuse but the Duke still controls the household, Rachel can make a case for Lucien and but she’s not supposed to know that this is happening, and the Duke can continue to do it in secret even if Rachel asks him not too. The Duke doesn’t live Lucian and nothing that Rachel does or says will change that. In fact, Rachel making some ultimatum would probably further infuriate the Duke and drive him to hatred towards his son. I think these reasons could be better explained in the story because it does look like she’s a little laid back about it but I don’t really get all the extreme hate. The Duke is obviously a psychopath, and that’s rubbed off on his son a little bit but Lucian still retains empathy at the moment due to the efforts of Rachel. I think trying navigate a psychopath in a much more powerful guardian position than you is a lot harder than all of you think. She offers Lucian the live that he can’t get from his father or mother, and I would say she’s improved his quality of life and inner household relations greatly from how they would be in the original story.

It goes past her being unable to stop the abuse. If I knew my friend was getting beaten, I don’t care how nicely he treats me personally, I would NEVER acknowledge him like Rachel did calling him father and whatnot. She enjoyed his “care”.
Dumb duke aside, she never even pleads for ML’s case to his mother! Instead being satisfied that she was worried about HERSELF. This is selfishness!
