Uhm.. wouldn’t ain surpassing his father be seen as a good thing? Like sounds more like praise and something carsius would be proud of. They couldn’t come up with a better rumor? Like winter claimed to know the chades’ weakness so why not use a rumor like “I heard that the Duke and duchess aren’t on good terms, they may act lovingly in public but it seems behind closed doors, it won’t be long before the Duke causes the duchess to divorce him and leave” basically a rumor that would hit carsius deeper due to the current situation and also would trigger the fear of abandonment that he and ain have. We’ve already seen that they sometimes act irrational when it comes to Roselia so it would at least cast doubts and worries into their hearts. Especially since the family has the worst freaking communication skills.
