@OneShaman1: that depends on a lot of factors..like interests, leverage, what/who/ how much power they each wield and in which field it is. Here the royal family is the only one supposedly able to help Riri and/or provide a lead to finding the actual cure for her. Plus the Duke is a bit unstable with his fantasyverse DID. No matter how strong they are, an all out skirmish will be detrimental to the duchy when both the Duke and the heir are not healthy and have yet to discover a permanent solution to their problems. So for now, lying low and showing obedience to the tr@sh Emperor is the best((though the duke really had a ridiculous amount of trust in the Emperor whose face just screams ‘I’m trash’😅))…

Everyone, meet Leona’s Grandfather. The guy with the white hair and beard. Though they are both currently unaware of one another’s existence. He is at least suspicious of her bloodline, as Leona’s eyes and hair are very specific bloodline traits of his family. So he knows Leona is a part of his family somehow, but he’s not aware that she’s his actual thought to be dead grand daughter.
This is going to get into more spoilers, so tune out if you don’t want more. Ya see, this dude suuuuucks, and most of his family does too. They are obsessed with blood lines. Very rarely, someone in there bloodline will be born with rare disease. Their family is the only ones who contract it. Leona was born with this disease. It’s a disease that specifically targets the soul, something about that soul going through some kind of awakening and becoming to large for it’s vessel. Well, Leona’s mom is a bit of a rebel in the family and she’s been locked up for it for most of her life in the temple. She knows if she don’t get out, Leona’s going to be deified in the temple as a holy child, possibly forced to have children as soon as physically possible, then eventually die before reaching adulthood.
So Leona’s mom, being the badass that she is, fakes her and Leona’s deaths. Being even more metal, she burns the fucking place down, then absconds into the night to the far reaches of the north. There she straight steals there holy artifact (side note, this is why winter is currently encroaching on the north) then casts a spell on Leona. She sends her soul to korea but tethers it to her original body, then she puts a pseudo spirit in Leona’s body to just live out her day to day. Then she put Leona up at a, at least what she thought was, a good home to live until adulthood. Once her body grew enough to be able to handle her soul, her soul would then be drawn back to her original body. Leona’s mom is currently still in the North, where she has decided to live in atonement. She wants to be the last to leave the North, to witness the destruction her decisions have brought. She is unaware of the abuse Leona suffered as she thought the family was a good and loving household, so she wasn’t all to worried about her and thought it was for the best. Since if she was around Leona, the grandfather would find her.

The MCs in such stories are waaay to respectful towards the royals because “uwaaah it’s the royal family”. If you’re from a powerful family you shouldn’t bow down that much.
