So I got curious and went and finished the novel. The little twist and turns in the latter half of the novel is pretty wild. Since I’m unfamiliar with how Hari’s comment system works. I’m going to try and spoiler tag it, but I have no idea if Harimanga even has that functionality.

So let’s start with Riri’s condition I guess, since it’s one of the bigger mysteries that hasn’t been spoiled by other people much. Riri’s condition is a disease called, “God’s Arrangement” or curse, depending on the scattered stories. As the only place you can actually find information on it is through word of mouth stories. It is exceedingly rare, as it only appear in children born to two very powerful bloodlines. Remember, our MC’s don’t know who Riri’s father is yet.
Who is Riri’s father? This one should probably be next, as he’s one of the antagonist of the story. Though he’s not exactly a good one or very smart about it. It’s the Emperor. The Emperor raped Ian’s sister after he got drunk one night at a party. As stated by him when confronted by Leona later, “Women usually fall on there faces to have sex with me, except for you.. and her”. He’s got zero remorse about it, he’s only upset it resulted in a child and he doesn’t know what to do with it yet. But as revealed in the novel, the disgusting bastard engages her to her own half brother then has her killed.
Why is the emperor so obsessed with Riri? This is a bit difficult to reveal as we’re just now getting into the arc of where the hints of this are shown. We’ve already seen some, through Ian’s actions and how he acts whenever he comes back from visiting the emperor. Whenever the royal family is born, soon after the temple will give them a “trust/prophecy” that god hands down to the high priest. The current emperors is interesting and was actually changed before being revealed to the public. It basically states that if he covets something that isn’t his, then it’s already to late and all he has to is clean his neck.
When Riri was born, her prophecy was handed to the emperor and wasn’t released at all. In fact they weren’t sure if it was Riri at all for a while. But it talks about the birthmarks of Riri and calls her a bloody wind, her prophecy seeming to be interpreted by the high priest and emperor as something that should be stopped at all costs.
But there is one more prophecy that wasn’t released. This is where it gets interesting. It’s about Leona becoming the voice of god, but the high priest and emperor don’t know it’s Leona yet. They have suspicions, which they’ll put to the test later. But Leona manages to fool them while also discovering, she has some major secrets about her birth.
Let’s get into some really wild spoilers. Leona was never from the Sedin family, she’s adopted. Leona’s mother’s name is Jenna, and Jenna is the high priests daughter. She’d been trapped in the church most of her life because of her father and there families belief. Her dad’s a little nuts and anyone born with white hair and blue eyes, especially if they inherit the family curse are confined to the church because “they are holy”.
After Leona was born, Jenna faked her and Leona’s death by burning to corpses in their room. But Leona was destined to die before she was 20 because of the family curse, a genetic disease that affects the soul. So Jenna went to a church in the far north, a land that was frigid and cold. A land being abandoned by god but barely hanging on. There she stole the churches holy relic and used it as a medium to send Leona’s soul to another dimension allowing both her soul and original body to age past 20. The original body only had a facsimile of a soul, which is why Leona feels she acted odd with the Sedins. It’s because she wasn’t a complete person, she was just going through the motions.
Jenna then took baby Leona to the Sedins, thinking they were raising a daughter of the same age and looked similar to Leona. She thought they’d take good care of her. So she gave them a bag of gold and a special necklace that only shows it’s color when worn by there bloodline. She couldn’t keep Leona, because she had to go into hiding and the only place she thought she was worthy to go. Was the frigid north, which was now truly abandoned by God. The ground was drying up, nothing grew anymore and the cold was getting worse. She thought it her punishment to confine herself to the north for the sins of leaving her child to another and stealing a holy relic.
Jenna is probably the sweetest person in the world and is still totally alive. Leona manages to track her down after discovering she has secrets about her birth. At first she was angry, but the more she listened to her mother the more she realised that her mom had to make some incredibly difficult choices to save her. Something which is mirrored later by Leona trying to save Riri’s life. Jenna’s appearance here comes in a bit clutch and comforts Leona, because they are both mothers who were trying to find ways to save their daughters. But Jenna reminds her that it’s different this time, because Leona isn’t alone and they can find a way.
Jenna is almost exactly like an older Leona and absolutely adores Riri like a doting grandmother. She instantly falls in love with Riri upon first meeting. Jenna, like Leona, can play offense incredibly well. When the Sedins showed up to try and extort money from Leona, Jenna happened to walk in with Riri and flew off the handle. Slapping Leona’s adopted mother several times, before turning around and slapping the crap out of Leona’s adopted sister. All while holding Riri who was cheering her on and telling her to slap her more. Stunned Leona in the background lol
