I don’t know if I’m right because it’s been so long, but since ancient times they have been cursed for killing (although this chapter showed that Ignis got cursed first not by killing his lover but by killing himself because his lover died, so his father cursed him for eternity just ignis wouldn’t die again).
Ignis(the blond one) was cursed with killing his lover in every lifetime, and Genus (the white haired duchess) was cursed because she killed her child in one of her lifetimes, so she was punished by making her kill her child in every lifetime as well
None of them can truly die if they haven’t killed their respective person in the lifetime they’re currently in.
I forgot another thing, (remember Ignis and Genus are siblings) but in this lifetime, Genus’s soul reincarnated in the body of Ignis’s lover, so in essence Ignis has to kill Genus to be able to finally die, even if she is his sister, but because her soul is inside the body of Ignis’s lover, that’s how it needs to be.
And Genus has to kill Abel, since she considers him her son, even if they aren’t related biologically, and ofc she won’t do that anymore.
If they try to die before completing their punishment, they suffer excruciating pain, but will not die.
