I’m more a fan of the theory he’s after her talent. I mean, what reason does he have to be in love with her at this point? So far she’s been cold and avoidant, and they haven’t spent much time together. meanwhile, her talent got him a nifty magic sword.

Actually, right now in book-space runtime land, that’s actually exactly what he’s after, just her powers/talent. He’s mad that everyone wants to go to the capital and of course there’s some additional rivalries going on there etc. Etc…. So he wants to build Torres to be a grand and unrivaled dukedom, but all of his retainers that had amazing talents kept leaving him! So right now he’s looking at her with like she can solve all of his problems..
It gets really funny as you go on and find out basically most people in his dukedom are his retainers ?
