And even if somehow, Astelle and Theor don’t get executed, their legitimacy to the throne would be questioned. Those who are against the Reston family would find a legitimate reason to depose her. Even if Theor is the only heir, he would be branded as someone that came from a family of traitors. It’s not that they don’t want to get rid of the Duke, but they have to be careful about it, even if it means they get careless and appear stupid. They’re trying to make sure he’s not unto them and just so they would not get caught along with him should he fall.
It’s frustrating, but it isn’t really that simple.
@Nahira I like Duke Reston gone as much as the next person but they have a legitimate reason why they can’t execute him for treason. Remember, treason here in punishible by death up until the third generation of kin, which means it won’t just be the duke that would be executed, but the law would demand that Fritz, Astelle, and even Theor would be too. That’s why Kaizen didn’t make the assassination attempt known because that would pose a danger to his family.
