Not so sure, if his intentions were of such a noble kind… both his wifes were a political marriage. No 1 has to be protected from her position, but No 2 not? Both parents are not to the ML liking and still in power (= both wifes face more or less the same risk) Sounds like an excuse. Also chasing a woman away with alot of public attention after consumating the mock-marriage… would she be safe?
@annabees he divorced her because he was about to march off on a bloody campaign to form an empire and wasn’t sure he’d survive. he had to marry her to get enough power to command the military, but if he fell in combat, his wife and any potential kid would be first up on the list of people getting super publicly murdered. even in lieu of that, she could be taken hostage, making her out to be someone he hated meant none of his political rivals had any reason to think she could be used against him, so they all left her alone. he needed her out of harm’s way. which isn’t to say i think he did the right thing – he could’ve communicated literally anything at all to her to let her know what to do next, but you can see where he’s coming from here. he probably thought his death was more likely than not and it was better to give her a shot at a clean break and a happy future rather than string her along and break her heart by dying
