I’m going to be the devil’s advocate on this one. Yes he is a bad husband, but he had no idea that the kid was even conceived. He took a pill in order to make sure she didn’t have any attachments to him. Also I think something must have happened because he still clearly likes her. Also the child was hidden from him for what 5-6 years and during that time he didn’t even look at other women or was interested in them. She left without a word with her baby and the only reason she is back is because of the late empress dowger’s will. She would have never told him in the first place so how can he be a bad father if he doesn’t even know the kid is his.
