y’all… That maid was literally saving Ellen’s life in more ways than one almost every day for quite a while, taking over that mother figure that little Ellen dreamed of having because her own mother was trying to kill her all the time. Is it really so unrealistic of her to show empathy for that person??
Hmm well I can kinda sympathise with her now. I mean i did feel bad for her from the first but I just didn’t understand why she never even tried to look at Ruby’s side of the story. Yes she might not tell you what happened but atleast try? Idk i guess I’m too attached to the main character that’s why I’m feeling like this.

I think people don’t understand what Ellen has been through. Her own mother was abusive and unfit to parent, I doubt her father was there for her either, and her brother was too busy. The maid was the only one there for her throughout her entire childhood. I’m not sure how old she is now but she has only found out about the maid’s behaviour a few minute ago, and she’s never acted like this before, it’s very out of the blue for Ellen. She was extremely brave for dismissing her, and she could’ve let her stay but she did what was right even if the one person who was there for her her whole life has just gone against everything she knew of them. The same goes for Freya, Freya was also another person who has been there for Ellen her whole life, you cannot just switch off your love for them, it’s shocking and you will end up making excuses for them. Imagine your literal mother figure and best friend she’s like a sister has just completely betrayed you, how would you feel?
I’m happy that Martha got kick out of the duchy because in the novel she was transfered to the different family branch and also I appreciate the author for adding the gardener character because then it was proven that the nanny did abuse her position and traumatized our poor Ruby.
I am actually surprised that Ellen punished Marta to a degree to kicking her out…
Ellen has always been a great character.
Even though tons of readers, presumably young teenage readers, think that Ellen never “stood up” for Rubi and “trusted” Rubi, Ellen is actually a very reasonable and caring character.
Of course you don’t blindly trusted someone, especially someone you just met.
If she Blindly trusted a newly-met person to a life-long friend, I woul have found her weird.
Ellen always observes and makes evaluation with her observations over time, which is really smart and calm.
1) Lol, what do u mean by that maid get it off easily. She get kicked out by a duchy family and i assume people will be reluctant to hire her because they will think she did some crime.
2) Don’t be too hard on Ellen. if u look through the story u will see that she had been pretty decent to ruby. She even looked after her personnaly while she wasnt obligated (even reminded ruby of her step sister from her past life because no one have ever done that to her , even the pope said she was faking… ) Let me ask u something. Would u have a PERFECT RELATIONSHIP with a foreigner sister in-Law whom came from a corrupt family, have indecent rumors and have a high chance of having their marriage canceled? Beside that its the employees who had been harsh on ruby when she and her brother weren’t there. Plus add the fact that ruby doesnt trust anyone here (exept her 6y old friends or monsters ) so she cant know…..
anyway its true that ellen is rather cold and could have apologized but i am telling u to look at the whole picture. She is human , she have flaws. No one is perfect for ruby…..exept Popo best boi
Nahhh that maid got it off easily. But sis needs to go beg for forgiveness. She was at fault for a lot of this turmoil… even meddling at the end, projecting etc. Rubi is traumatized… also, it ain’t the bros fault, he didn’t know. Had he known he would’ve protected her.
