He’s not selfish. He was being RESPECTFUL. It was the escorts’ will to protect their master. They chose that kind resposibility and trained for that purpose. They already expect they’d die while on duty someday. So blaming the mc for not helping from the start would tarnish the escorts’ honor and resposibility. It’s also not nice for the overpowered to flex all the time. There are downsides of being the ‘overpowered hero’ like the people would be too reliant on his strength all the times or he may overshadow people who put their whole effort to achieve a small portion of what he had and would feel down and inferior with their abilities.
