In a way, this manhwa is a lot like “Grand Duke of the North” – the future actually looks dark for the disadvantaged female lead who was sold as a wife to a battleworn unsocial Grand Duke; but since the female lead is overly good-hearted and extremely cute, the male lead falls in love with her, and so a clumsily sweet love-story enfolds.
Unfortuantely the male lead of “Hold Her Tighter So She Wouldn’t Run Away” is an even worse red flag and less good looking than the one in “Grand Duke of the North”; while the female lead Yuelina/Yuna is excessively positive and waaaay too naive, but she never acts like an airhead.
This male lead Theo was married three times already to women who either fled (and divorced I guess?) or even killed themselves. Then he became an alcoholic and now he has basically bought the female lead – because she is thought to be a saintess, and Theo has to marry her as one of the necessary steps until his royal family can steal the female lead’s holy powers from her later on.
Without good cause Theo tries to scare his new wife into obedience from the very start and deliberately wants her to feel miserable. He denies her a marriage ceremony and makes her live in the attic of a dark abandoned tower.
It’s just the female lead’s luck (= plot armor) that she’s absolutely super cute and always only thinks the best of everyone; by this she softens the male lead’s heart and he starts to cherish her.
But make no mistake: even in chapter 19, the male lead has still not changed her living quarters (even worse, while she has put a lot of work into the tower, he has destroyed the stairs so that she can now only leave the tower via a bridge leading to his chambers), and he even thinks that it would be good if she found out about his true personality and became angry at him, because then he could lock her up without feeling guilty…
You would not want to imagine what would happen to the female lead if she was sharp-witted and not so extremely beautiful.
