As homeless orphans, how would they learn that stuff? Especially with their family’s possessions either confiscated or destroyed.
My question is: why didn’t the parents cast more than one spell on them? Or direct them to a family friend? Or accompany them at least part of the way to safety? Or anything besides die, really.
