I suspect Margaret probably abused merrily behind the scenes. Since the marquis (forgot his name) still loves his daughter, Margaret probably has to put up a act and ensure the child follows along. I highly doubt Margaret is the kind of woman who’d accept loving a child from another woman, she’s more likely doing whatever she can to have her own kid so she can toss merrily aside.
