Making things more complicated than they need to be, I mean he wants ‘her’ and not the OG, and she’s there….so why not just be nice to her? I mean I get that maybe he’s afraid that the FL will vanish and the OG might return, but while it’s her and not the og, why not just idk talk and bond rather than secretly plot behind her back to keep her through somewhat forceful means, instead he should make her feel loved and safe so that she’ll want to stay by her own free will (That will at least guarantee she won’t run away and if she does ‘vanish’, it wasn’t by her own doing and whoever caused her to leave can have hell till he finds her again).
