If my theory is correct, the time when that rainbow gem burst out, the people thought that the gems are powerful(which they are) and started monopolizing but the energy released by the explosion of the raonbow gem might have reached to our main character(Ray). Thus, why he can see colors of various mana since the power of rainbow gems is High and there were lots of panels with Ray obliviously interacting with rainbow mana.
