@Igarashimakoto, I mean, yeah, she was smarter before to us, but this chapter takes place before all of that. At this age, she is intelligent, but hasn’t had a need to be cunning. It’s likely that she was able to deal with the stuff at the academy because it was small potatoes compared to this guy. Although, I’m guessing she’ll end up trying a few things that don’t fully work out since we know that she went to the academy in part, if not entirely, to be safe away from all this.
