I don’t understand why this hag has to take revenge on Camelia as it is her husband who cheated on her with another. It is Camelia’s mother who did something to her son (which is then a question of whether it is true or not… and it seems not). Instead no… he takes it out on the poor protagonist…. who then also Camelia is already so close to seeing her mother again, he can always pick her up and take her away from Paris to another place or ask her brother or Claude for help. With all the years that have passed, it could be that her mother has already died of hardship or worse still killed by this madwoman, fled somewhere else or made a life for herself and Camelia will be destroyed.
And then what wickedness? Staging a funeral for a living person…
