I’m guessing that him killing the emperor would result in jubelian dying, and in the original timeline trying to keep her safe he put here in a room that magic couldn’t penetrate and sent max to help protect her, however due to mental health reasons jubelian thinking max was going to kill her killed herself instead. Causing her father who had basically nothing left to lose to go ape shit on the emperor. But this is all just guessing and I could be totally wrong
