gonna be honest with you here… that’s not how titles work. you can have more than one at once. go ahead, look up the currently royal family of england and get a load of the laundry list of titles they got going on. some even stacked them on purpose to be able to give titles to more than one of their children. so in this case, their first child would be the future duke, and the second child would inherit the marquisate. nobody has to give up their title under any circumstances. this is a pointless and factually incorrect source of plot drama so it’s hard for me to take it seriously
