Go read GL if that is what you want. And there other stories with fully platonic female – male relationships that are amazing to read too. True friendship and companionship is great to read about too, I much prefer that than if, in this case, FL was only this close to the empress cuz of romantic feelings.
You say this could have been a good GL story but y’all forget she’s married to the emperor and actually loves him. I also hope to see more of the empress’s relationship between her and the emperor and her children. We haven’t seen her twins yet and I want to know if the author is going to mention if she even cares about them.
I also agree with Pizzaparty in the comments. Love doesn’t have to be romantic all the time. If anything it’s nice and refreshing to see the main individuals in a story become friends who support each other, protect each other’s hearts and well being, and give each other a voice and encouragement to face their fears.

I am sooo glad this is not a yuri!!! I am fine with a platonic relationship; you don’t have to romantically be involved in order to support each other, and this is portraying that aspect quite well. Shame on you if you can’t stand any other love than romantic.
