You are right, the main problem here is communication, and the more problematic one is Rose being to meek to speak up and express her worries.
I won’t say the ML is ‘selfish’ since he really IS willing to give his life for her.
But he sure is incredibly self-centered and single-minded, missing the rest of the points altogether.
He has not taken into account the main point: his wife’s character!
Man you KNOW how meek she is, if you really love her don’t get her involved in the most dangerous and darkest of wars, the power struggle of a monarchy.
She is not fit for that world at all.
HOW ON EARTH do you even think that she can survive by just keeping her close to you!?
How is that possible when EVERY SINGLE subject of yours would scrutinize and scorn in every turn while you are looking away!?
How do you want her to be truly happy if you make her leave her comfort zone while pregnant with such a sensitive personality!?

This is why their marriage ended badly. There is NO communication, and in fact, there isn’t any trust either.
The ML doesn’t fully explain to her what she will experience at the imperial palace. He just thinks “well she did it in her past life so it will be fine this time”, though he loves her, he’s incredibly selfish. The sole root of her trauma stemmed from the fact that she was perceived as nothing but a slave, and because of that, she had no power to say who her husband slept with. He must have believed she was fine with everything in the past because she loved him and she never relayed her concerns, and that lack of trust and communication resulted in both of their demises.
Clearly her well-being wasn’t his top priority in the past. And I don’t believe that men don’t know the difference between love and lust, they’re not stupid, they do know the difference. I hope he changes, but after reading the spoilers, I’m honestly only reading to see what happens.
