Yeeeah, I thought he had those concubines to make allies to solidify his position as emperor. It only makes sense he went down that path if he thought the best way to protect her was to be the emperor. But tbh, he’s right coz so long as he lives as a direct line of the previous emperor and main wife, he and his descendants will always pose a threat to the throne so, that’s most likely why he’ll choose that path again but at least he’s trying to gain allies without the need of shortcuts (coz marriage is a shortcut in the political hierarchy world) either that or he kills everyone in the royal palace and places someone else on the throne.
@Leileyani I’m glad you came mama😂. I understand the way of politics at that time, that an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. And that high ranking monarchs commit adulterous acts and sometimes evil deeds to protect their lovers. But,tbh we readers are not here to read about politics,right? We are just simply want to read and criticize. A love story without an antagonist is not fun to read, it’s boring. However,we readers want to read how the MCs fought for their love in spite how critical the situation they’re facing. We love to read a love story where there are antagonists who wanted to separate them apart,but they survive them no matter how hard. We love stories with dramas,but not so much details.

I am shocked and surprised by many of the comments here. I saw earlier someone mention the boom Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. It’s obvious from the comment that some of you might be too young to know that that book has NEVER been accepted by most people especially those who deal with people in general such as psychologists. When the book was first written, it was seen as a good thing but almost immediately was panned for the bias it flat out showed. It was so disliked that there was other books and several articles written pointing out it’s obvious flaws such as not taking in to account the men and women who did not fit those categories. If memory serves one such book was titled Men Are From Venus, Women Are From Mars (it might have been a parody book). It has a resurgence every now and again and each time it is seen as extremely flawed. No man nor woman fits into a single category. As for what he’s doing, again I’m not surprised at how people seem to not understand that he can’t stay out of the fight for the throne. He is an heir even if he is illegitimate. Those who oppose his older brother will seek him out to get him off the throne. That’s why usually those who ascend the throne will destroy those who could take it from them. In the past it was very common for even mothers to kill their own children to keep the throne. (Google Hatshepsut) So he wasn’t wrong. Even if he stayed in that village, eventually royal members would seek him out. If not to have him fight for the throne or kill him to take him out of the running.
@HellyCutey he’s afraid to make the same mistake again,dear. But,things this time won’t be easy since he’s refusing to have concubines with powerful backgrounds. That’s alright though, it’s better to struggle for some short period of time than to struggle for the rest of your life being tormented by those women.
