And also I just love the disconnect between the emperor’s “normal” way of thinking (that is kind of patriarchal but we’re used to and feel like it’s pretty rational) and paul’s desperation of protecting what she has achieved so far (title, fief, career, position). Paul saw how emperor’s women ended up as just that…. Women, locked in the palace, treated as pretty things that also function as heir factory. As someone who has so much of her own, there are too many to lose when she’s expected to be a woman who knows her place.
