I guess you’re all unfamiliar with the story pf Cupid and Psyche this is exactly like this. Cupid is Venus (Aphrodite’s) son. He’s very handsome but he hides in darkness because it’s a command from her mother (can’t remember exactly why). So Psyched was brought to the top of the hill and they told her she’s a sacrifice to a certain monster.
Cupid then took her in and treated her well but she’s not allowed to see his face because tragedy will befall if she does. The envious sisters of Psyche visted her on her and find out she was living a fine life. They got jealous and so they pushed her limits and said words to forced her see her husband’s face when he’s sleeping. She kept a lamp beside her and then out of curiosity she did what her sister’s said. She was shocked on how handsome Cupid was but the oil from the lamp burned Cupid’s shoulder waking him up. Upong seeing his wife didn’t trust his warning he immediately disappear (it’s mot that he want to be apart from her but Aphrodite stop them on being together.)
So Aphrodite is the Villainous mother here who hated her son’s wife because people regards Psyche as a beauty that can compare to Goddess Venus.
So what a tragic end Psyche went to series of adventure and test given by Aphrodite before she finally let them live together (take not while doing the test Psyche is pregnant) 🤧
So the author of this book really used the Cupid and Psyche theme here.
Author get ride of this plot point about her not seeing him, or make it make sense. It’s really making it hard for me to get into the story because is so murky and inconsistent. I’m like ok feeling the story, the pacing is weird but that’s ok, then the duke shows up looks his wife in the face pretends he’s not her husband and then in the very next scene acts as the duke and she suddenly can’t put two & two together and I’m snapped out of the story and my minds like WTF?…PLEASE help and fix it.
