Because previously in the story she persevered with a desperate struggle for survival against the odds, and is now refusing to save herself for no obvious reason.
To me, it’s not about her interaction with the Duke or Callisto, it’s about her seeming to have given up, something that has been shown as distinctly out of character for her.
I would also say she started in an objectively worse situation, with fixed dialogue choices and all, and with all the power and allies she now has it’s like most of the character development has been forgotten.
Sorry about all the text, but in answer, yes, we absolutely can bash a fictional character if we think they are acting ridiculously.

@paprika_g Maybe the translation I read is poor, but I’ve not seen Kalisto say that at all; I’ve only seen HER insisting to him that he’s wrong about it.
Her character is just annoyingly inconsistent; at the start she was creative and motivated and worked her way out of near death scenarios over and over.
Now that Yvonne has shown up, she’s just doing literally nothing to try and save herself. The game has already defied her expectations so why would her not knowing what’s going to happen change anything now?
You can see why I’m pissed that an engaging character I wanted to support is now seemingly acting stupid to force some drama in the story…

Why are ppl hating on Penelope? Did you forget that she’s not only been abused in her first life but her second life as well? You expect her to accept everything easily after everything she’s been through? She has trust issues she’s been abused she’s been forced to live in a game that would slowly lead her to death OFC SHES NOT GOING TO BE HOPEFUL ABOUT ANYTHING! You think it’s easy to accept callistos love or the dukes apology cuz it LOOKS easy to you. u don’t get to bash her for how she’s reacting to this situation when you can’t even understand her feelings

@Goaties I agree that sometimes they don’t explain things right and one has to take their own conclusions, like from my understanding she rejected Kalisto because at that point in the story she wants to leave this world, and according to the game she has two options, death as a villainess or an ending where a ML confess her true love to her and the game ends and she can go, and doesn’t have to keep living in a world that puts her on dangerous situations and constrain her actions. Kalisto proposed to her but says he doesn’t love her, which doesn’t fulfill the requirements for her to end this “game” she’s trapped. Also, since according to the original story he’s supposed to fall in love with Yvone and they hadn’t met at that point (plus she now knows Yvone could end up brainwashing Kalisto to be on her side) she could accept his proposal and end up with a bad ending of the game.
Basically, she’s too scared that if she doesn’t follow the rules to end the game something bad will happen to her, at least that’s what I understand. When she was alive, she couldn’t get the good ending on hard mode so she doesn’t really know if there are any big plot twists she only knows the story of the easy mode and how to die a lot of ways on hard mode.
