Those are my thoughts on art and the two latter kinds of forgeries mentioned (entirely original and lost works). If someone can paint something like the original artist and it’s not simply a replica of something else, does the piece itself not have merit and value for the same reasons the real pieces did? The problem with art nowadays is that there’s so much money behind it. People care more about boasting to owning something some old dead guy drew, then the content and composition of the piece. I feel like the only money in art should be to upkeep old artwork and pay artists to continue to create beauties rather than waiting until their dust to acknowledge them.
