Ya I’ve only seen 1 story where FL doesn’t go with the Duke or a prince and actually ends up a happy commoner. The guy was toxic tho so I just skipped to the end when he “changed” for her. It wasn’t bad

Its so frustrating.

However, the worst of the worst are historical drama/manhwa/novels, Koreans in particular. Maybe due to the Confucian system almost ALL of the FLs end up with the ‘higher-status’ guy, even if the lower-status one is more appealing!!
Its like being force-fed by a diamond spoon! Just because it is diamond, or the wrapping is alluring doesn’t mean it. is. NOT. FORCED!!!
Doesn’t really make any difference if the FL does, which they usually do, falls for the guy!
The fact of the matter is, the guy with a higher status had the MEANS to steal her heart!
More than the other guy at the very least.
NOT because he is more handsome or his love is greater etc.
Just because he has the money and power to go about and get what he wants!!
While the other guy can’t just because he doesn’t have that luxury!
Thats it!
And most of the times he is the one who happens to have been with her for the longest, as a friend or a “big brother”.
Very sad indeed.
Dae Jangum was the only historical k-drama I know of that the FL did actually end up with the lower-status guy even though the king had fallen for her–although the ML wasn’t a commoner either.
And that ONLY was made possible by the king himself, when he withdrew his order which didn’t come without a price for the pair as well!

Still, I find it unfair no matter how flowery they’ve made the wrapping!
I’m so damn tired of such plots I drop the whole thing the moment I figure out its one of THOSE stories!! Its so UNFAIR for goodness’ sake!!!

Honestly, I wish there were more manhwa where the ML isn’t the emperor, king, or head of a noble household/magic tower. Give me a teacher! Or a baker! Or the great duke of the north’s overworked aide!!!!!
