I believe “cat” refers to Kit, with her childhood nickname of “kitty”.
Meanwhile, a chrysalis is where a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly. I think this is referring to her undergoing a drastic transformation from something simple and easily overlooked, to something beautiful. (and not referring to her melting into goo)
