okays, let’s talk spoilers. I went through and read the novel a few days ago and it’s honestly pretty good. Dragon Duke is the ML, we haven’t met him yet unless you count flashbacks. Though he’s not the only ML, if you get what I’m meaning. Orcas can marry more than one person :p.

So let’s talk about Grandma for a sec. Calypso doesn’t like her and for good reason. She is the person who is probably most at fault for Calypso’s traumas and deaths. Grandma is very indifferent to the family, believes that might makes right and survival of the fittest. She is fully aware that children in the nursery annex are dying at an abnormal rate. It’s actually kind of rare for a child to live alone in the annex like Calypso is. But Grandma thinks they’re dying from illness, so they’re weak and don’t deserve pity.

Grandma is also responsible for marrying Calypso off to the Panther family, in both time lines. Calypso sent multiple letters to her, begging her for help. Which she ignored, until she was informed of her death. She read the last letter and it affected her greatly. So much so that she did change in the next time line. She was a little more attentive to Calypso, in her own way. She still married her off to the panther family. Though she did send servants with her this time and gave them orders to try and prevent Calypso from running into the troublesome members of the panther family. She was very surprised that she died from tetanus lol.

In the 3rd life she really isn’t much better. Later when the Dragon Dukes power explodes for spoiler reasons. Dragon Duke, Calypso and Grandma fall into a gap in time and space. There she gets to witness with Calypso her subsequent deaths and how they happened and what happened to the family after Grandma dies in the 3rd life. The entire family tore itself into pieces, Grandma was surprised but Calypso asked her why she should be surprised. This is the family she created, once the strongest died it created a power vacuum without a successor. Causing everyone to form factions and try to kill eachother.

They are then separated and while Calypso is off gallivanting around. Dragon Duke confronts Grandma and implants Calypso’s memories of the timelines, as well as her pain, suffering, depression and trauma. So that she can never turn away from it again. After this, Grandma goes into a depression, accepts Calypso’s duel request and loses in spectacular fashion. Calypso then banishes her to the remote countryside. Her mission is to go around to each of the families that lost a child to the nursery annex due to her neglect and apologize.

Later there is another family that attempts to take over with her grandma as a spearhead. But she ain’t having it and destroys the plot before it Calypso can even take action. Calypso knows Grandma has been fulfilling her mission and her hollow eyes are evidence of that. She doesn’t forgive her, but sends her back into the countryside hoping that one day she might be able to call her Grandma. She disappears for the rest of the story, barely even mentioned in passing conversations later in the novel.

Grandma is one of Calypso’s number one priorities for revenge. But it takes a long time to get there and is the primary goal for arc 1 of the story and it’s finale. She is not a good woman and she is not kind. She only thinks about what’s interesting or fun for her, mostly involving some kind of conflict. She gets joy out of seeing the Orcas trying to kill eachother.
