The female lead is a pathetic excuse of a woman. Her sister was, indeed “deceived” into thinking that the guy was a traveler. BUT she was never put a gun to her head. The sister left on her own free will, fuck society, her duties to her family, her role as a high class person… Screw the whole thing.
You can’t and should not expect such attitude to be “punishment free”. Modern-day high class (and I mean high class, not nouveau riche) still work on the exact same way. Furthermore the Female lead ALSO decided to marry out of her own free will; she could have solved the issue in one thousand different way INCLUDING not taking the fucking sister in heat to the party, but SHE CHOSE to do so, she chose to let the sister wander around.
Just like she CHOSE to be super extra I-cant-believe-this cruelty level and mimic her being burned alive to a man who might be missing a screw or two but indeed loved her with passion. She has never once tried to understand where HE comes from, what HE wants, it’s all about what SHE thinks things must be done. SHE who like to play “oh but I am a disabled sad person who will wither away in my parents manor because no one can love me with just one good leg” and when opporutnity comes and she is expected to RISE out of her self-imposed misery, she does not want to.
Its comfortable being miserable and so she likes to make everyone miserable
