i think the issue with it being a different hairpin is because this one’s not her favorite. she didn’t wear her favorite one because this sick bitch tried to steal it last time. wearing something different now has the same vibe as making sure you hide the good silverware when light-fingered guests are coming over. the insult is deserved in this case, but it’s still not subtle.
