I think the reason the crown prince chose these people was cuz they’d understand to some degree how it feels to be ostracized and treated like dirt for things out of one’s control. Nobles would look down on a girl who can’t afford the latest luxury items and trends, who has to shown up in old and/or plain clothing instead of luxurious ball gowns. People would avoid a girl with facial scars because “she isn’t beautiful” and “is disfigured”. The noble daughters will ostracize and bully her while the noble sons will gossip insults about her and reject her harshly, and both may cooperate a sick game of acting kind only to crush her and bring her to her lowest. Same goes for a girl without her family name as family name is would be a big thing to nobility but a girl without such would be called a fake noble. The prince likely chose these girls because they can understand how cruel people can be and may be good to ashtarte as they can understand her situation in a way and therefore hope she doesn’t have to suffer like they have.
I get she’s trying to be protective but the impact of the protectiveness is harmful and problematic. There had to have been a better way to go about if

And isn’t this the most backhanded insult ever. She finally gets help in that dilapidating palace but he can only hire broken or poor people to serve the princess. This is an insult to both those people and Ashtarte . Everyone knows they accepted a position they normally couldn’t have, who says just because they came voluntarily they are good people, you cant trust them around her yet either
