This is like a weaker version of “Who Made Me A Princess” – weaker writer, slightly less likeable characters, a way less fierce love interest. What made Who Made Me A Princess work is that the king hated everyone EQUALLY so while I despised that a shitty father could happily murder his daughter it was very equal opportunity – he would murder anyone, really. And has.
Here – we have a father who is definitely in control of his full capabilities! He’s a shitty father who tells himself that he’s supposed to be a shitty father because of ‘tradition’, has about 10 seconds of ‘oh no why isn’t my daughter falling all of herself to call me father’, and seems to have conveniently forgotten that the 2 kids he’s been aware of this whole time are children of the daughter of the man who caused his first wife to die.
…so he’s been a shitty father this ENTIRE TIME ON PURPOSE!
Of course his first daughter has come back from hell outta nowhere determined on revenge! And Shitty Father of The Decade not only fails to protect the daughter he bothered to stick around and raise but who knows what the hell happened to the little boy after Keira died. Since he looks identical, Cosette PROBABLY couldn’t have succeeded in also sending him to the grave that quickly but Lord knows she must have tried lol.
I’m just skimming it at this point to see if it gets any better? But i think we can all predict how this is gonna go:
– Cossette is going to win first. She’s gonna go ahead and display her powers somewhere everyone can see and then say Keira is the cuckoo who broke into the nest
– The public will turn on Keira just like before – she didn’t get around to making any good friends this time because she only went back to 2 months before her death. no amount of prep could have changed this part.
– Her maids and the knight order are gonna do everything they can to prevent her from being locked up in jail – i’m pretty sure that’s going to fail.
– Cosette is going to turn out to have some other type of magic in addition to the spirit one – to make it so that we like the father (this is such lazy writing omg), she’s gonna have something like hypnosis or curse wielder or something like that. if she does, there’s gonna be a dark magic warlock equivalent to the high tower mage somewhere in the mix.
– the Father will not be forced to be responsible for this mess AGAIN – “oh no, i was bewitched”, “oh no but i had to save the empire”. whatever bs he comes up with will because the author will try VERY hard to make this into a redemeption arc for deadbeat daddy
– the Grandfather MIGHT succeed in getting his kid outta imperial jail before her execution
– the great Aunt on the Parvis side might also come out of seclusion to try and help Keira out – i wish Keira would have flat out done more work to go “ohhhh loook at this diary i foundddd looks like there’s precedent for late bloomers, how FUNNY, how ODD” well…she’s a shy teenager who was only ever good at studying killed 2 months ago, there’s no way she would have known how to play this much of the game of thrones even before her first death
– it’s gonna come down to some legend of the wind spirit or whatever spirit is supposed to be the one in this story – at this point, that’s the only thing that can save her from second death and it never happened quickly enough in the first life. so little miss ma’am is definitely fucked until the 11th hr when the author throws one of the above wrenches into the plan
