being real… it kinda takes something away for me. a huge part of the emotional impact of julius’s sacrifice was that even knowing it had the potential to get him killed, he was willing to go out of his way to protect a complete stranger, a child he had no reason to believe was important. but now he’s got other motives for wanting to help her that honestly have nothing to do with her safety or happiness – he’s only doing it for his brother. it’s still touching and all, but him having ulterior motives for protecting a little girl taints it a little. was she not important enough to save in her own right? nah he’s just playing posthumous matchmaker.
Would you give up your life for someone you don’t know? This chapter makes his death even more impactful because it shows is fear, doubt but also his determination and his great love for his younger brother. The fact that he died for his brother and not for a random kid doesn’t take anything from his death.
