I agree with you @AMarshmallowOnTop but didn’t she always had a choice? If she never accepted that box from that suspicious stranger or gave it to her son. Or even didn’t care for her position, in the end her greed for power is the reason for everything. She’s killed countless people too. Abused her own daughter. She’s even the reason her son died and got possessed to begin with. All due to her own greed.
Well, I guess she could be considered as pitiful. She could have still enjoyed her life just by being the mother of the saunters if she had chosen to love and raise Leticia. But I guess she had to be the ‘bad guy’ for plot purposes.
The mother was both a perpetrator and a victim. While she did deserve retribution, eternal suffering is just brutal. She was a pitiful character from start to end.
