It could also be in their academy days, and he could have had a one-sided crush on her without her noticing.
Yet, if he is her ‘Yeudel’ then they must have been friends at the time.

My only issue would be their ages here. It is said that she had gone to the academy at the age of 10. And thats when she had gotten engaged to the carp as well! Then comes the 10 years separation and when the carp got back he annulled their engagement right after. So her age has to be around 20 since it happened recently.
We still don’t know their age difference, so he could have spent like a couple years with her at the academy before going on his demon extermination journey. That would be enough for an affection-deprived child/teen to develop deep emotional dependence on someone who is like the sun in their gloomy life.
That would make him 23 aprox, I’m not exactly sure about his age yet, but the MC’s age is almost certain by now.
Everything changes if the emperor has actually regressed though.
It was told that he’s the third prince and a son of the second concubine,but it was not told how he ascended the throne. If ml and mc are of same age,that means there was five years of being together. Maybe ml has a hard childhood and mc became his redeemer. If their current age is 27,that means they were separated for 12 or 15 years. So it’s very possible that she might forgot him,unless this is some regression plot manhwa where ml is the regressor.

* Ml went to war at the age of 15, maybe after that there were no news, no letter exchange.
