i don’t get it…so the cardinal purposefully let the prince hear so he could have another opportunity to win over Shuli? But i thought he also had a sort of frollo-esmeralda thing for her?
i think the cardinal is under the impression that the prince will realize what a bad political move it is to take shuli’s side when she’s got this much scandal going on, not realizing that the prince is a fucking whackjob who will fire the scandal gun himself just to pretend to be her hero in shining armor for seduction purposes. honestly, i didn’t expect to be on the cardinal’s side for this one, but as far as trying to steer the prince clear of scandal goes, this is a painless and tactful way to do it, without leaking information to the public and throwing the poor girl straight into the lion’s mouth, while also keeping the prince from thinking he’s just being manipulated for political gain. it’s a lot more respectful of her privacy than some people’s tactics have been
