This is a nitpick of all these stories, not just this one btw.
With these “i fell in love with the tyrant” stories, the ML never actually displays evil intent. He’s either brooding, uses empty threats, or is just a misunderstood emo boy. The characters are never tyrants, the MC’s call them “madmen” “crazy” but the story does nothing to show that. Personally I would like a story where the tyrant is genuinely evil and acts crazy, but is slowly changed for the better….aka the format of all these stories, except with a little more realism to the word ‘tyrant’.
And I don’t mean like a bad guy who is trashy (misogynistic & abusive), I mean an ML who’s vicious acts aren’t told with exposition. Like you can SEE why they’re called tyrants, you know what I mean? they’re blood crazy? then SHOW that. These stories are basically “He’s bad, but I can change him” but they aren’t really changing anything when the “tyrant” character isn’t a tyrant in the first place but a simple man that looks sad all the time.
The only tyrant I’ve seen that is quite evil at first is in “Please Don’t Kill Me, Your Majesty!” (or something like that).
Sorry if this was a bit of a random nitpick, I’ve always had this on my mind with tyrant stories. It’s just…if you’re going to make them evil, make them evil!
