This story starts off like many others – noble (count), but gambling and violent father of a cute female lead aims to sell her off to an unknown “duke”. She runs away and “by coincidence” flees into the carriage of the male lead, who’s a self-made “captain” of a shady group. As a common trope the male lead knew the female lead when they were both children (and he’s very likely also the “duke” who tried to “buy” her)…
However, the female lead is a bit different from most – she’s unruly, cheerful, has been living with commoners as a kid, still likes to mingle with the servants, has an independent female friend… and wants to live freely.
So the main topic is that the female lead still needs to hide from her father, strives to live as a commoner (maybe in disguise), to build up a business and “prove her worth” while breaking free from her role as a “lady” who is desired for her beauty, but still always told to “behave”…
In a way from that point on the story reminds me of “Miss Pendleton”, because the male lead has a hard time to make the female lead stay with him, since she hates the idea of becoming a pampered lady 😀
But we’re only at chapter 7 by now, so who knows where the story will go from here?
