   “If a rapist rapes a woman… and she ends up actually enjoying it, is that rape?” Yes. It is. And as an experience, it’s often worse for the victim than if her experience is entirely pain — because people who don’t understand how the body works, and rape works, use it as an excuse for her attacker. First of all, I’ve worked with hundreds of survivors of sexual assault, and whether or not they reacted sexually, none of them were“enjoying” it. They were terrified for their lives, and in pain. The only place the scenario you describe happens is in porn — and it’s one of those myths that perpetuates the assumption that it’s really okay to rape. None of the many other sexual assault advocates I’ve talked to ever had a case where a woman “enjoyed” rape either. So, for the record, if a woman — or man — ends up reacting sexually to stimulation, even to the point of orgasm, without his or her consent it’s still rape. And it should still be punished to the full extent of the crime for the length of time it haunts the survivor — which means, the rest of the rapist’s life.
